A time bank is a membership organization that provides a system for people to exchange services. The exchange currency is time, and everyone’s time is of equal value. Each local subgroup has a coordinator who helps match people up with services they need, or find recipients for the services they offer.
Time banks build community and help overcome economic and emotional hardships brought on by economic recession, environmental degradation, and the decline of local culture.
Eastbay Reciprocity Network (ERN) is a regional time bank affiliated with TimeBanksUSA, and has a local group just getting going, based in Albany. As it expands, there are opportunities for dedicated individuals to become coordinators in their own areas. If this is you, do come!
Attending an Orientation is key to joining the ERN Time Bank (even if you already belong to the SF Time Bank), so please come if you're interested. You may discover new depths to the concept and you''ll certainly meet people from whom you may want to receive services, or to whom you may want to offer yours. There will be an opportunity to join there and then.
Saundra Hodges, founder of the Eastbay Reciprocity Network, and your local Time Bank Coordinator (me) will be presiding.
