Yard Fungus - need help

We have three types of fungus popping up around our yard and are hoping someone can help identify or at least let us know whether they're bad....
1) 8095734265?profile=originalFirst, is the yellow stuff. It starts out as a large pile 8095734889?profile=originalyellowish gooey stuff (too big to be our tiny dog's vomit) on top of the mulch, then it grows into a raised pile of goo, then it turns into a dry puff of yellow and eventually turns brown inside.

2) There are white patches of mold under the mulch (my guess is it's from the cardboard we used to sheet-mulch last year). Do you think this is bad to grow vegetables in/around?

  • Hi Tina,

I just learned about the gooey yellow stuff, because I have it in my yard too.  It's funny you describe it as "too big to be our tiny dog's vomit", because it happens to be called the "dog vomit slime mold".  It used to be classified as a fungus.  It's botanical name is Fuligo septica.  If you Google search dog vomit slime mold, you will find all sorts of funny posts.  Most people say it is harmless to people and pets.

I don't know about the other mushroom; I would keep pets away from those just to be on the safe side.

    Happy gardening,

    Paula
