Let's not forget that the City of Richmond was the only City in Contra Costa that received an "A" grade from the American Lung Association's Tobacco Control 2010 Report Card. So one of the Sustainable initiatives that I would like to see happen in Walnut Creek is to raise their Tobacco Control grade from an "F" to match Richmond's "A".
Outdoor Air Quality is as important a consideration as Indoor Air Quality when it comes to sustainability.
Sustainability is all about improving the quality of life now and for future generations and how can we do that without insisting on more stringent tobacco control measures where we live, work and play? Walnut Creek can start by enacting a no smoking policy in City owned outdoor areas including Parks and Recreation Areas. Danville's Park and Recreation Commission voted to ban outdoor smoking which will come before their City Council for a vote this Spring. Walnut Creek's PROS Commission should follow suit and also vote to ban outdoor smoking so this can be brought before WC's City Council.

We, at The Harvest Bag, want to see all the Bay Area cities do the following:
1. Ban all one-use plastic bags INCLUDING produce bags. (www.theharvestbag.com)
2. Ban all styrofoam.
3. Ban all one-use plastic take-out containers.
Let's work together to reduce plastic overload in our landfills, the ocean and the environment. Let's not leave the mess for our future generations to clean-up!! We can do it.
Best regards,
Georgette Howington
