Are you looking for ways to get involved in your Contra Costa community this year? Below you will find opportunities to engage in environmental activism in Contra Costa County and in your current city.

Get involved in Contra Costa County:

If you haven’t already, you can join the Cleaner Contra Costa Challenge and find sustainable actions to take in your household. After you’ve joined the Challenge, you can create your own team and invite your families, friends, and colleagues- anyone who would be interested in creating a cleaner, healthier community (and saving money in the process)!

Get involved with 350 Contra Costa, an organization dedicated to mobilizing environmental activism in Contra Costa County. Their programs are centered around Education & Outreach, Fossil Fuel Resistance, Legislation & Policy Advocates, and Youth Climate Action. Click here to stay updated with 350 Contra Costa’s work in our county.

White Pony Express mission is to help eliminate hunger and poverty by connecting those who have a surplus of food and clothing with those in need. Their Food Rescue program rescues, on average, 15,000+ lbs of abundant food per day, which is then sorted and delivered by volunteers and staff to organizations serving those in need. Their free General Store distributes new and like-new clothing, shoes, toys, children’s books and games to Contra Costa residents in need.

Get involved in your city:

[Walnut Creek] Friends of the Creeks If you’re interested in cleaning up and restoring the creeks in the Walnut Creek area and reestablishing habitat wildlife within the creek corridors, this is the organization for you! Friends of the Creeks plans and participates in creek cleanups, habitat restoration, citizen science, political advocacy (when necessary), and occasional special events.

[Concord] Clean Streets Concord This group is dedicated to removing trash from the streets of Concord by walking around their own neighborhoods and picking up trash. If you would like to be involved, you may message their public Facebook group at any time.

[Martinez] CoCo San Sustainable Farm This community farm is a project of AgLantis, whose goal is to create a sustainable and just food system that promotes Food Equity, protects the Environment, Educates, and promotes Economic development. You may contact them for more information at SUSTAINABLEFARM@comcast.net.

[Pittsburg] Clean Pittsburg This group of community members visits a different Pittsburg neighborhood each week in an effort to make their neighborhoods a better place to live. You can find their upcoming cleanups here.

Whether you choose to become involved with organizations that aim to serve the entire Contra Costa County or are searching for ways to become more involved in your own community, any time is a great time to start making a difference!
