By now you may have heard of Bea Johnson, the author of the bestselling book Zero Waste Home. She and her family of four have been living a zero-waste lifestyle since 2008, only producing one jar of trash each year. Bea Johnson’s blog explores waste-free living by chronicling personal experiences, and by providing tips and resources for people interested in adopting zero-waste lifestyles.
She proposes that when adopting a zero waste lifestyle, it is important to follow the five R’s (in order):Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot. Bea explains on her blog that the thinking behind the five R’s is to “Refuse what you do not need, Reduce what you do need, Reuse what you consume, Recycle what you cannot Refuse, Reduce or Reuse, and Rot (Compost) the rest”.
At SCOCO’s upcoming workshop “Zero Waste Living With Bea Johnson”, Bea will be teaching attendees how to reach zero waste in their homes and daily lives. She will provide practical solutions and will explore how to save time and money with a zero waste lifestyle. To learn more about the workshop, which will be held on June 18 from 10am-12pm at Rodgers Ranch, visit SCOCO’s workshop page.
