One of Sustainable Rossmoor’s slogans is “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle,” with the goal of reducing waste and greenhouse gases. On Tuesday, July 11, at 7 p.m., Sustainable Rossmoor will host a presentation by a local business focused on reuse and landfill diversion efforts.
Savers Value Village, Inc., is a for-profit, purpose-driven thrift retailer with more than 300 locations across Canada, the United States and Australia. Tony Shumpert is Savers’ vice president of reuse and recycling, and for more than two decades, he has guided the reuse and landfill diversion efforts of Savers.
Shumpert has played a key role in advancing the company’s positive environmental impact through industry- leading reuse programs, while successfully diverting more than 3.2 billion pounds of goods from North American landfills over the past five years (2018 to 2022) alone.
Shumpert is excited to join (virtually) the Sustainable Rossmoor Zoom meeting at 7 p.m. on July 11 to discuss Savers and how the company’s retail thrift stores – including its new store near Rossmoor – positively contribute to the community and the environment. He will also provide background educational information about the reuse industry and its efforts to keep clothing out of landfills.
