Benicia Community Gardens (BCG) is offering an immediate opportunity to convert your lawn to permaculture food forest and to install a laundry-to-landscape greywater system that will feed all the trees and bushes in your new garden!
Application process: August 20 - November 30 2015. For more information and to apply: www.BeniciaCommunityGardens.org
Volunteers and the trainees of the BCG’ Land Caretakers Program will assist in converting your thirsty lawn into a thriving food-producing ecosystem fed by the laundry-to-landscape greywater system.
These installations are sponsored by the Benicia Sustainability Commission and are free to Benicia’s homeowners. Your responsibility will be to maintain the food forest (Land Caretakers Program graduates will be available for hire to help you with this task).
The application process starts on August 20th and ends November 30th 2015; the first installation is scheduled for the end of September and the remaining food forests will be installed in early spring of 2016. While we are particularly interested in highly visible front-yard lawns to convert, other types of landscape (up to 2,000 sq. ft.) are welcome to participate. We will visit all the applying households to evaluate their suitability. BCG Board and the Permaculture Advisory Board will make the final selection based on the proposed sites' characteristics.
