Green Building and Sustainability are quickly becoming the norm. This education session provides an introduction to LEED and the LEED Green Associate Certification process with a general overview of green building practices and LEED for green design, construction and operations. This session will give the audience a clear and direct path to becoming LEED accredited by hearing from a former USGBC-NCC intern who recently passed the LEED Green Associate exam.

Scott Watkins is Managing Partner of integrated green building consultancy Buildaberg and a ChangeLab Solutions (formerly Public Health Law & Policy) staff member. In addition to his role leading Emerging Green Professionals within USGBC NCC’s Diablo Canyon East Bay Branch, Scott is a licensed California General Contractor, a LEED AP, and previously enforced building code, permits and zoning regulation for the City of Alameda. In all his capacities, Scott works to identify practical green building techniques that implement an integrated approach from design to operation. Scott is a graduate of San Diego State University with a degree in Public Administration, City Planning emphasis.

Ramon_SolisRamon Solis, LEED Green AssociateSan Francisco Bicycle Coalition
Ramon is a program intern for the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition. Previously Ramon contributed to various bicycle and pedestrian research at the Institute of Transportation Studies in Davis. Ramon also moonlights as an independent journalist and has written and drawn comics for such publications as the Orange County Register, Hyphen magazine and various community newspapers. He also serves as the advertising coordinator for Hyphen and marketing manager for the San Francisco Zine Festival. He is a recent graduate of UC Davis’ environmental policy analysis and planning program and recipient of a merit scholarship by the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials. He is currently interested in researching architecture and plans to pursue graduate school in architecture or landscape architecture.
