Wise gardeners always say "Feed the soil, not the plant." So what kind of soil do you have, and how healthy is it? This workshop will give you the ability to assess your garden soil in a variety of ways. You will learn to review the physical, chemical and biological indicators of soil quality. Urban gardening expert Rob Bennaton of U.C. Cooperative Extension will teach you the tools to assess your soil, and an understanding of what actions you can take to improve your soil quality. The workshop concludes with a discussion on soil safety and preventing toxic exposure in backyard, community and school gardens.
