Ready to save water? Curious about irrigation systems, but haven’t figured out which one to choose? Don’t know how to install a drip irrigation system? Interested in finding out how you can receive up to $2,500 for removing your lawn and replacing it with water-conserving plants? Join us for this one-day hands-on workshop, and learn about all of the above.

Seven months ago the Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour held a “Mow no Mo’!” sheet mulching workshop at this private garden, and 1,200 square feet of lawn disappeared in a day. (And, instantly, the money that the homeowner, Karen, used to pay to have someone water, mow, rake, and weed every week-end was freed up!)

Now Karen’s garden is ready for drip irrigation to be installed. If you are the kind of person who likes to learn by doing, this is the workshop for you!

Staff from the Urban Farmer will provide an introduction on drip irrigation, including the benefits of Netafim; the parts needed and layout of the system; and a demonstration on how to assemble the drip irrigation. After questions are answered, participants will be split into groups, where they will, under guidance, install the drip system.

We will discuss the water conservation benefits of removing your lawn, have handouts available, and provide information about the EBMUD’s Landscape Rebate Program. (Yes! You can receive up to $2,500 for removing your lawn and replacing it with water-conserving plants!)

Bring a lunch, snacks, and drinks. During lunch we’ll answer all of your irrigation questions, and Kelly will discuss the garden design, and the plants she has chosen.

This workshop is sponsored by the East Bay Municipal Utility District. For information on EBMUD’s lawn conversion and irrigation rebate program, click here.
