Scientists agree that the first step for cooling the planet is preventing CO2 from entering the atmosphere. But that’s an enormous task that may not happen fast enough (or ever). So scientists and engineers are opening another front to combat the climate crisis: Developing technologies that can help us cool the planet—from reflecting sunlight to enlisting the help of plants to sucking CO2 out of the air.

Will they work? Can they scale up? Do they pose risks? The monthly Green Sofa Cinema Series will explore those questions Wed., Nov. 17th from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a discussion of “Can We Cool the Planet,” a beautiful NOVA/PBS film about innovative new technologies aimed at helping prevent the most extreme climate risks. A local expert on the topic is expected to present as well.

So grab a seat soon on your own favorite sofa and watch “Can We Cool The Planet?” (free on PBS.org). Then Zoom in November 17th to discuss the film and hear from our presenters (register in advance HERE).

The Green Sofa Cinema Series is sponsored by four Contra Costa environmental groups: 350 Contra Costa, Generation Green, Sustainable Contra Costa and Sustainable Rossmoor.
