In this class, we will take a virtual tour of regions of the world that are considered dry, i.e. has low precipitation. We will focus on cold and hot deserts, Mediterranean-climate ecosystems, and arid grasslands and shrublands. For each region, we will examine the climate, geography, and characteristic vegetation.
John Chau (Plant Curator at Filoli Historic House and Garden) will be leading this lecture. He has a Ph.D. in plant systematics from the University of Washington, where he studied evolution in the genus Buddleja. He conducted botanical fieldwork in North and South America, Africa, and Asia.
