Join us for an exploration of the intricate relationship between plants and people at this drop-in event at the Garden.

  • Visit the out-in-the-Garden exhibit on plants in our collection that hold special roles in the lives of people (be it food, drink, dye, medicine, etc).
  • Immerse yourself in a special viewing of the California Native Plant Society’s “Saging the World“.  The short-form documentary is about protecting white sage (Salvia apiana) and its cultural uses.
  • Discover the bounty of edible plants that can be foraged in the urban environment with Prof. Philip Stark of the Berkeley Open-Source Food Project.
  • Learn about the incredible colors derived from plants, and purchase your own natural dye starter kit or pre-dyed yarns and textiles from A Verb for Keeping Warm.
  • Touch, smell, and learn at a special interpretive table about plants from the Garden that have ethnobotanical significance.
  • Browse through a selection of rare and unusual hybrid succulents from the Agavoides plant vendor.

The event takes place in our Plaza and Building and is FREE. Garden admission fees apply to those who wish to enter the Garden.
