April is here and that means it’s time to get ready for the 2015 Community Resilience Challenge! Last year, the challenge team hoped to get at least 3,000 actions, and the total number of actions registered exceeded 8,000. So this year, the expectations are ramping up, with a goal of 8,500 registered actions.
However, the challenge began with the larger objective in mind of raising awareness of the need for localized solutions to the numerous environmental problems we face. Many of the suggested actions are framed around ideas in the Sustainable Contra Costa Action Guides, which cover everything from energy and water conservation to growing food and building community.
Either use those ideas or come up with your own project or action. These can also be group-focused or individual, so pick what works best for you. Whatever approach you choose, just be sure to sign up! It can be small or large, daily or a one-time occurrence, but what matters is that you put forth the effort to make the East Bay a thriving, healthy, Earth-friendly place.
If you already have a project or action in mind, you can register it on the Resilience Challenge website from now through the end of May. On that site, you can also find how-to guides and related local events. Keep an eye out for volunteers for the challenge at a number of Earth Day celebrations throughout the area during the month of April — they’ll be ready to help you pledge an action!
