We are excited to announce our Cleaner Contra Costa Spring/Summer Challenge! Complete as many actions as possible to earn points for a chance to win prizes and be recognized for your efforts. The Challenge starts today and goes until August 31, 2020!

 

Compete as an individual!  The first 100 individuals to reach 5,000 points will receive a Tread Lightly Toolkit, which includes a reusable bamboo utensil set, a reusable stainless steel straw, and more! 

 

OR

 

Compete as part of a Clean Team! The top team in each region East, Central, and West Contra Costa County will be recognized by the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors and each team member* will receive a Tread Lightly Toolkit.  

 

Starting a Clean Team:

  • Anyone can be a Clean Team ambassador and form a team of up to 10 friends. Teams work together to earn points by taking sustainable actions through the Cleaner Contra Costa Challenge platform.
  • Sign up to the Cleaner Contra Costa Challenge platform in order to start a team.

  • Bike, Walk, Skateboard, Unicycle (830 points): Feeling restless and need a change of scenery? Take advantage of the spring weather and get outside with other members of your household! Dust off your old bike, or just go for a walk. Explore more tips to take this action.If you aren't familiar with the trails in your area, you can also check out the Contra Costa Bike Mapper.
  • Choose Green Electricity (2670 points): Live in an apartment? Can’t add solar to your home?  No problem! Choose Green Electricity to receive 100% renewable energy from sources like solar and wind. Explore these actions further to learn about renewables! 
  • Take Shorter Showers (940 points): Water is one of our most precious finite resources, and showers can account for up to 20% of our indoor water usage. Save some for other household uses, and the fish, by taking shorter showers! Learn more about this action. You can also take a free Home Water Use Survey and then implement some of our tips to save this resource in your home. 
  • Retire Extra Refrigerator/Freezer (650 points): Use your extra time at home to consolidate food storage and make new recipes! Retiring an extra appliance makes a big impact. Learn more about this action. Refrigerators contain hazardous substances, so check out RecycleWhere to find a safe option for recycling.
  • Replace Lawn (2840 points): Maintaining a green lawn is the biggest outdoor water use for many homes. Replacing your lawn is a significant way to save precious water resources. The possibilities are endless--transform your lawn into a native plant haven, vegetable garden, or outdoor art gallery! Learn more about this action, and go to the bottom of the page for more resources. You can also earn up to $1,000 in rebates through the Contra Costa Water District Lawn to Garden Rebate Program.

Existing teams have a chance to compete in the Clean Team Challenge, and we will count any NEW actions you take beginning May 7th toward the competition.

*Participants can compete as an individual and on a team but will only be eligible for one (1) prize if their team wins and they are also one of the first 100 people to score 5000 points individually.
