Get Ready to Vote!

8095763858?profile=originalDid you know that voter turnout in Contra Costa was just under 40% for the primaries this summer? That means about 60% of registered voters did not cast ballots and share their voice. Every person’s voice matters – if you are eligible to vote and have not yet registered, visit www.registertovote.ca.gov to get started. The voter registration deadline for the upcoming November General Election is October 22.

Now is the time to start researching candidates, state propositions, and local measures. A quick search online will bring up sources for voter information guides, such as:

If you want to see how certain parties are voting, search online for their 2018 endorsements. Local newspapers and other groups often also publish their endorsements as well. By researching ahead of time, you’ll be able to confidently visit your polling location or fill out your mail-in ballot and ensure your voice is heard!

Here are a few environmental propositions on the upcoming ballot:

Prop 3: “Authorizes $8.877 billion in state general obligation bonds for various [water and environmental] infrastructure projects.” More info: http://voterguide.sos.ca.gov/propositions/3/

Prop 6: “Repeals a 2017 transportation law's taxes and fees designated for road repairs and public transportation.” More info: http://voterguide.sos.ca.gov/propositions/6/

Prop 12: “Establishes minimum requirements for confining certain farm animals.” More info: http://voterguide.sos.ca.gov/propositions/12/
