Teach Science in the Garden to K-5 Students!

The MDUSD Garden Education program works with elementary schools in MDUSD to use the school garden as an outdoor classroom through which we can teach science and other garden-related interdisciplinary topics.

We are looking to hire at least one garden educator for the 2017-2018 school year. Our ideal educator would be someone with teaching experience and garden knowledge/experience who can navigate a public school system well. The garden educator will be teaching K-5 students and working to help train our elementary classroom teachers in Next Generation Science Standards. A teaching credential is welcome though not necessary.

For 2017-2018, the program is set up to be 4 days/week for a total of an equivalent of 24 weeks: 8 weeks in the fall, 8 weeks in the spring, and a flexible 8-week period that will likely be in the winter (and that may incorporate nutrition/cooking lessons as well).

Interested parties may contact MDUSD Garden Education Project Director Tamara Helfer for further information at tthelfer@gmail.com or 925-818-3131.
