Job Description
SCOCO is seeking an experienced educator with a passion for engaging with Contra Costa youth and adults on all aspects of sustainability and environmental awareness. While a primary educational focus will be grade school (K/8th) students, additional activities may include instructing high school classes, coordinating and instructing workshops for people of all ages, and organizing community action events for the public, the business community, and government agencies.
A background in science is preferred; additional training or background in biology, chemistry, earth science, and/or environmental science is an advantage, as is knowledge of sustainable-living and permaculture practices. No teaching certifications are required but a background check is.
Primary Responsibilities
Individuals may be asked to participate in any of the following activities:
*Learn curricula and conduct classroom instruction
*Support youth and civic groups in developing and implementing climate actions
*Lead in-class presentations and hands-on activities using sustainability-focused
curricula
*Coordinate with teachers, administrators, partners, community group leaders, and students on events and follow-up activities
*Prepare or contribute to periodic reports of activities
*Advise and assist SCOCO staff as requested to:
*Publicize and schedule community events, school-related programs and classes
*Modify and/or improve engagement or course materials and curricula
*Manage equipment and supply inventories and logistics for delivery, setup and return (this may require moving and lifting containers weighing up to approximately 50 pounds)

Preferred Skills and Attributes
*Knowledgeable and passionate about Bay Area sustainability and energy efficiency
*Fluent Spanish language skills
*Strong ability to inspire and motivate self and others
*CPR/First Aid
*Lives in Central Contra Costa County
Technical Expertise
*BA/BS in Environmental Studies, Science, Environmental Education or similar is strongly preferred
*Experience using Google Suite (Google Docs, Gmail, Calendar, etc.)
*Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and online meeting platforms (MS Teams, Google Meet and Zoom)
*Salesforce experience is a plus
*Comfortable with and eager to learn new technologies
Travel
Must have reliable vehicle, clean driving record and proof of insurance for work-related travel in Contra Costa County
The Position
Part-time position with variable hours; approximately 20 hours per week
