One of the most rewarding sights to see in one’s garden is pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds fluttering from plant to plant. Pollinators play an important role in ecosystems, and are responsible for the growth of most flowers and foods we get to enjoy. To get started on a pollinator-friendly garden, consider planting California-native plants and going pesticide-free. For more tips to create a pollinator habitat, check out these resources:
How to Attract and Maintain Pollinators in Your Garden
This month, Sustainable Contra Costa will be hosting an exciting family-friendly gardening workshop in Pittsburg, where the focus will be on creating pollinator-friendly environments. Attendees will discover ways to engage children in the garden with herbs, flowers, and pollinators to stimulate the senses. The workshop will showcase some of the easiest family-friendly plants that pollinators love. Plus, each family will make a pollinator home, receive a bug-guide, plant list, and an herb to get started! For more information, including registration, visit the Family Friendly Gardens workshop page.
