Overview: This is an exciting opportunity for college students and recent graduates to gain valuable skills in the area of energy efficiency while giving back to the community through volunteer work. It is a unique position that is ideal for a person hoping to broaden their knowledge about energy efficiency and build references in order to embark on a new career in sustainability or non-profit.
The Business Energy-Efficiency Specialist Intern serves as an educator and consultant to business owners and property managers through the East Bay Energy Watch (EBEW) Program. The EBEW program is a local government partnership between Contra Costa and Alameda County that is designed to help small to medium sized businesses become more energy efficient, saving both energy and money.
Key Responsibilities:
Approaches businesses to educate on the EBEW Program and benefits
Encourages businesses to register for a free energy assessment through the EBEW program
Introduces program at business association meetings and events as assigned
Tracks status of each business contacted
Prepares follow-up correspondences as needed
Coordinates with EBEW team when business decides to proceed in next steps
Other duties as assigned
Skills/Qualifications:
Great organization skills
Excellent conversational and presentation skills
Independent worker
Basic knowledge of computer and data entry
Interest in energy efficiency
Comfortable with a variety of face-to- face interaction
Positive attitude
Time Commitment: approximately 10 hours per week
Location: Throughout Contra Costa County. Volunteers will be assigned to areas convenient for them.
Support: Thorough training on business energy-efficiency and the EBEW program provided, along with supporting materials.
