The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is now accepting applications from individuals to fill three (3) at-large seats on the Contra Costa County Sustainability Commission. Applications are due by Sunday, January 15, 2023, at 5:00 P.M.

The Sustainability Commission has twelve members and five alternate members, all of whom are residents of or work for an entity eligible for an At-Large seat located in the County. The Sustainability Commission advises the Board of Supervisors and staff on design and implementation of the County’s Climate Action Plan, including opportunities to realize equity and fairness across the diverse communities of Contra Costa County and how to better engage County residents and businesses on climate issues.

At this time, applications are being accepted for the following seats:
• One member representing environmental justice issues and who lives in a impacted, or “disadvantaged,” community, and who reflects the geographic diversity of the County. The other environmental justice seat is held by a resident of Pittsburg;
• One member representing commercial groups or organizations whose business focuses on sustainability and/or environmental issues; and
• One member representing community groups whose mission includes sustainability and/or environmental issues

The Board of Supervisors considers applications from all interested individuals; the Board’s Sustainability Committee conducts interviews for at-large seats. The term of office for the seats listed above is through March 31, 2027. There is no term limit at this time.

Sustainability Commission meetings usually are held the fourth Monday of February, April, June, August, October, and December. (The December meeting date usually occurs earlier in the month.)
