There is no question that the COVID-19 pandemic has created tremendous difficulty for every area of our society. We hope that you are taking care of your health, your family and loved ones, and asking for help when you need it. But we have also noticed a few signs of hope and encouragement in some of the things that are going on.

Most households have significantly reduced their carbon footprint – in ways that would have been unimaginable just weeks ago. True, these reductions (however long they last) have come at a significant cost for businesses and millions of workers. While we work to minimize the immediate hurt (especially for our most vulnerable residents and communities), can we learn to sustain some of the new habits we are developing?  With care and compassion, can we imagine a future in which we look back on this time and call it something like "The Great Re-Set?" Let us know your thoughts.

8095772058?profile=originalIn addition to the carbon-footprint reductions that we HAVE to make, are there actions that are fun, easy, and continue to lighten our planetary burden? We're glad you asked! Take a look below at some actions you can take from home, as part of the Cleaner Contra Costa Challenge. If you haven't signed up yet, it's easy. And if you have, let's get busy!

Be Heat-Wise

Adjust The Thermostat

Line Dry Your Clothes

Fill The Dishwasher

Eat Lower Down the Carbon Chain

Choose Green Electricity

Compost

These are just a few of the actions that we can all take from home. And it's more fun as a team! SCOCO will be assisting teams in holding virtual meetings to encourage each other's "carbon diets," so contact us if you'd like help in starting a team.

We wish you all the best
