The Gardens at Heather Farm is pleased to announce an exciting nature adventure series this summer for grades Kindergarten through 8th grade.  All programs will include teacher-led age appropriate activities, science experiments, arts & crafts, and games. Snacks and drinks will be included. Nature adventure activities will take place in our outdoor learning pavilion, and throughout our six acres of beautiful gardens.

 

Pre-registration is required: sign up for individual classes or the join us for the whole series. Discounts available to GHF members.

Whole Series: $130/child
Individual Classes: $50/child

Monday, August 5th: Discovery Bird Walk

The Gardens at Heather Farm is a certified wildlife habitat and provides the perfect environment for students to learn about and a wide variety of avian species. Join our instructors and learn bird identification skills, study bird songs and calls, take part in a wildlife photography contest and create your very own field guide to take home.

Tuesday, August 6th: Green Plant It Workshop

Students explore the 4 R’s in these fun hands on workshop that includes a wide variety of activities including composting, recycled art, healthy eating and organic gardening. So dig in and investigate the secrets of soil and composting, solve a compost critter mystery and learn about health, nutrition and the environment. Students will make and take home a real mini worm bin and design, build, and plant their own starter herb garden.

Wednesday, August 7th: Watershed and Wetlands

Explore freshwater ecosystems and learn about the role they play in providing critical habitat to terrestrial and aquatic life. Students will investigate the hidden lives of these amazing plants and animals. We’ll discover how these creatures adapt to underwater life, and learn how we can protect the health of aquatic habitats. Activities include collection samples from our small creek, using microscopes to view micro-organisms, learning about pollution prevention and creating their very own watershed model to take home.
