The Burden, has been called “the most effective communications tool ever made for shifting the debate on clean energy as one of urgent nationally security.” The film underscores the U.S. military dependence on oil. Our military is the largest global institutional producer of greenhouse gas emissions. Ironically, our military is also the largest provider of first responders to address global natural disasters averaging emergency & rescue operations every 2 weeks.

The true cost of gasoline at the pump would be over $8/gal if the cost of the U.S. military protection of "the world's life-blood" were factored in. For every $1 the price of a barrel of oil goes up, it costs the military $130 million. The Department of Defense consumes 50% of the U.S. discretionary budget.

Settle onto a comfy sofa to watch the film on your own, then join us for an online discussion with energy consultant and retired military officer Andrea Marr on March 16th at 7:00 p.m.
