OK.  This year again bought a sustainably-grown live tree, whose pieces will be turned into mulch post-holiday.  Bought LED lights for the tree.  But those lights were manufactured in and shipped from China.  (Sighhh)  Am making most of my gifts.  Mostly from from locally-grown sustainable wool yarn, repurposed sources, and baking supplies from eco-conscious King Arthur flour  (long-distance shipping again.  :-<)  From Lands End, selected high-quality and long-lasting items for one very…See More

"Thanks for the tips, Sheila! On the west coast and southwest, lawn watering uses 60% of the potable water. My front yard is covered with white rock, which I hated until I realized it's permeable, doesn't need watering, and is reflective…"

"So true. Check for leaks too. I have a handy person who does leak testing, happy to pass their name along. A tiny pin hole size leak can waste a lot of water. Other tips: low flow shower and faucet aerators, when buying appliances, especially…"

Water Saving is Easy!

Hi all!I've been conscious about taking short showers, limiting laundry to two big loads a week, turning off the tap, and so on. Pretty painless. Got the water bill today, and am astonished that I'm using 30% less water than this time last year, and am using only 7% of my daily allottment. Granted, I'm a household of one human (and a bunch of critters). But still, I'm astonished at how much water those teeny little steps saved. :-)See More

Karen,
Thank you for your nice message, I too was happy to meet you even though it was brief. I am a LEED AP and considering getting a LEED for Homes AP specialty. Wishing you the best on when you take your exam. The start of Ecohouse construction was over 9 years ago, way before there was a LEED program. As a matter of fact LEED for Homes just came about a couple of years ago. Look forward to meeting and having more Green Talks with you. ~ Bob Joe
