The East Bay Community Resilience Challenge has gathered thousands of pledges since the April 15th kick-off. Contra Costa residents have stepped up to take on new challenges to build more vibrant and healthy communities, such as expanding their gardens, installing greywater systems, getting their homes weatherized, commuting by bicycle, and volunteering in their local communities.

Volunteers and CivicSpark fellows have gathered pledges at 24 local events, including Earth Day events throughout the county, Farmer's Markets, Bike-to-Work-Day Energizer stations, the Contra Costa Centre Transit Fair, Walnut Creek Clean-Up Day, Kaiser health events, and more.

By making one small change in their lives, residents not only help create more resilient communities, they also win great prizes! Participants received a variety of free gifts including gift cards to Bill's Ace Hardware, Sloat Garden Centers, and Yogaworks, free mulch from EcoMulch and free compost from Mt. Diablo Recycling,  10% off at Mt. Diablo Nursery, and takeaways to support their waste-free lifestyle such as shower timers from CC Water and reusable bags from Half-Price Books.

If you share your pledge and photo before June 4th you'll be entered into a raffle to win gift certificates to Bill's Ace Hardware, or EBMUD's beautiful book Plants and Landscapes for Summer-Dry Climates.

It's simple to enter:
1) Take the Community Resilience Challenge online

2) Take a picture of yourself putting your pledge into action, such as hanging clothes on a line, or digging a garden. If you can't do that, write your pledge on a piece of paper and take a selfie holding the pledge.

3) Post the photo on social media with the hastag #eastbaychallenge, and ask others to "Take the Community Resilience Challenge"

4) Send a link to your social media post to info@sustainablecoco.org.

By submitting your photo you are agreeing to be entered into the raffle. Write to info@sustainablecoco.org for more information about the raffle.

And join us at the Pittsburg Green Footprint Festival on June 10th, our last Challenge event of the year. Each action helps us all make a collective difference.
