What gets over 100 miles per gallon, produces zero carbon emissions while travelling, and runs on what you had for breakfast? A bicycle! Riding bikes is a simple, fun, healthy and significant way to reduce your carbon footprint, among many other benefits. If American drivers replaced just one four-mile car trip with a bike each week for the entire year, it would save more than two billion gallons of gas, and the emissions they produce.

To make all of that easy and approachable, we're lucky have Bike East Bay, whose mission is to promote healthy, sustainable communities by making bicycling safe, fun and accessible. Bike East Bay offers a fabulous variety of classes for bike riders of all types, even those who have never learned ride at all. One of their most popular offerings is "Urban Cycling 101", a two-day workshop which teaches the rules of the road, crash avoidance maneuvers, and tips for having more fun on every bike ride in the East Bay.

Visit their education page to learn about classes covering theft prevention, bicycle civics, family cycling, and more. Then dust off that bike and get out there!
