SCOCO Green Building Award Categories & Instructions 2017

The 5th Annual Contra Costa Green Building Awards showcases innovative, sustainable design and construction. Recognize the architects, builders, and owners of the green buildings in Contra Costa County - submit your nominations by July 15th! Click here to nominate a Green Building Project.

The Green Building nominations are evaluated by an independent panel of distinguished green and sustainable building professionals. The Green Building Award Honorees will be recognized at the annual Contra Costa Leadership in Sustainability Awards Gala on September 20th, 2017 at the Hilton Concord.

Award Criteria and Nomination Guidelines

The Green Building Awards are open to any green building in Contra Costa County completed within the last five (5) years. Additions and remodels are considered for the award, as reusing a building conserves resources and is definitely a green approach to construction.

Required Submittals

1. A [maximim 2-page] narrative describing how this project has incorporated the environmental performance criteria listed below (submit in online form).

2. Site Plan with North Arrow

3. Digital Photos (include features listed on checklist). By submitting the photo(s) you are authorizing full rights to use the photos for any promotional materials.

Submittals (except for two-page narrative, which is submitted via the online form) must be sent to gba@sustainablecoco.org.

Narratives (2 pages max):

Energy Conservation & Efficiency

In narrative, describe your project and its special/innovative features such as: building orientation; passive heating/cooling; cool roof; solar thermal; solar photovoltaic; energy efficient heating/HVAC; LED lighting; energy management system; electric vehicle charging; etc. If known, explain what aspects of the design are above Title 24 requirements and what percentage. Include any lessons learned and ways that your project has helped to educate others.

Water Conservation & Efficiency

In narrative, describe your project and its special/innovative features such as: greywater; rainwater capture & use; water management systems/sensors; water efficient landscape; high-efficiency fixtures; etc. If known, explain what features are above minimum code requirements. Include any lessons learned and ways that your project has helped to educate others.

Sustainable Materials & Healthy Environment

In narrative, describe your project and its special/innovative features such as: recycling of deconstructed materials; nontoxic/low VOC materials; sustainably harvested materials; etc. If known, explain what features are above minimum Cal Green requirements. Include any lessons learned and ways that your project has helped to educate others.

4. Construction & Demolition Diversion Rate

5. Energy Performance Ratings

6. Percent on-site renewable energy generation
