Sustainable Contra Costa has been a weekly staple at local farmer’s markets and events throughout the month of May. Our message is positive and uplifting — be a part in the healing of our planet while creating abundant lives and stronger communities at the same time.

It all begins in our own backyards. Whether that means growing a vegetable garden to feed family and neighbors, biking or walking more to help purify the air or planting drought-tolerant plants to become more water-wise, the little changes we make at home make a big difference.

The community response has been inspiring! There have been thousands of sustainable actions already pledged in Contra Costa County alone. This year we have added an online student pledge sheet where kids can also take part in the Challenge by committing to one or more “kid-friendly” actions. Many local schools are using it as part of their lesson plans to promote sustainability among our youth. Have your kids make a pledge to turn off off the lights behind them or challenge them to keep their showers to five minutes (if you have kids, you know that one is a true challenge!). Here’s the link to the online student form.

If you haven’t yet pledged an action, there's still time. Visit sustainablecoco.org/challenge to make your pledge now, or come see us at the Pittsburg Green Footprint Festival on June 9th to make a pledge in person.
