Walnut Creek celebrates PARK(ing) Day, a worldwide one-day celebration when artists, designers and residents transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks. Each PARK is designed to be interactive and will include music and entertainment.

The “pop-up parks” created on PARK(ing) Day invite downtown residents and visitors to linger and enjoy public spaces while highlighting some of the elements that make Walnut Creek special, including its vibrant, pedestrian-friendly downtown and dedication to sustainability.

Invented in 2005 by Rebar, a San Francisco-based art and design studio, PARK(ing) Day takes place from Iran to Madagascar, Venezuela to South Korea and more. The project continues to expand to urban centers across the globe. 2015 is the third year that Walnut Creek has participated.
