In historically industrialized uban areas, the potential for residential yard soils contamination is often high. Many urban residents want to grow their own food for health, economic, and community-building benefits, but are concerned due to nearby environmental issues or sources of contamination in their communities.

This workshop—a followup to last year’s “Improving Your Soil Quality (for the Urban Grower)”—will provide processes to assess urban soils and manage risk. Participants will increase their understanding of how to sample soils, map those samples and the results in order to prevent exposure and manage risk. The workshop concludes by looking at urban soil safety in the context of heavy-metal-safe-growing and risk management for backyard, production, community and school farms and gardens, with continued emphasis on best practices.

RSVPs are closed for this FREE workshop, but feel free to attend!
